What is the AOH?
The Ancient Order of Hibernians is the oldest and largest Irish Catholic fraternal organization in the United States. Our motto is Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity. Since 1836 the AOH in America has worked to foster and perpetuate the history and culture of the Irish people, support the Catholic church and promote peace and unity in Ireland.
Who is the Sons of Erin Division?
Our Division was founded in 1996 by members of the Catholic Diocese in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since that time, we have expanded our scope through the years, and we now have members from areas throughout Western North Carolina and South Carolina, including Charlotte, Ballantyne, Fort Mill, Kings Mountain, Denver, Belmont, Tryon, Davidson, Dallas, Matthews, Waxhaw, Indian Land, Rock Hill, Marvin, Mooresville, Pineville, Cornelius and Lake Wylie. In other words, our members are primarily drawn from areas throughout Greater Charlotte, NC.
We are a vital group of Irish Catholic gentlemen, we participate in a large range of events, programs, activities, and we provide Charitable support to a number of local, regional, State, National and International initiatives.
Membership
Like most organizations, we are always looking to grow our core membership. So, are you a Catholic Gentleman of Irish Descent, Over the Age of 16, Who Appreciates Irish Heritage, Camaraderie, and Good Works? Are you a recent graduate, recently retired, recently bored or just looking for something new to get yourself into? Do you live within driving distance (or flying distance! Or internet distance!) of Charlotte, NC? Do you like to meet new people and do you like to have fun?
Where do we usually meet?
We usually meet every 2nd Thursday at St. Matthew Catholic Church at 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway in Charlotte, NC, and we are always looking for a few good men (actually, lots of good men) to join our ranks; in the spirit of Irish tradition, in fraternity, volunteering and plain old good fun.
